It's becoming more important than ever to encourage children to regularly exercise with childhood obesity levels rising across the globe. Leading to serious health issues is obesity and you need to teach your children how to live a healthy life.

Important with children under 5 years old are free play and setting a good example. You can't expect yourself to do something different if you yourself spend the weekend sitting on the couch. Structured exercise programs are not what children need at this age but rather just some encouragement to move around. All children to get active are a game of tag, running around the yard, or even just a game of ball. A bicycle ride, a visit to the swimming pool, or family walks can help you and your children stay healthy and active.

Children under the age of 7 can benefit from a peewee league where they learn fitness, teamwork, and basic skills although they are not ready for organized sports. They can enjoy learning the basics that will help them stay fit while preparing them for little league even though they struggle with the rules of organized sports.

When they start school, their exercise should continue and this can take a more structured form. Not only will joining a sports club get them moving, they will also learn social skills like sharing, working as a team member, and listening to instructions.

People are still debating whether or not young children should do any weight training. The reason for this is because exercising with weights can cause damage since their bodies are still developing. Pain, discomfort, and serious problems can be caused since most often this occurs when muscles grow faster than bones.

Family activities not only improve the health of the whole family, they give parents the opportunity to spend quality time with their children - important in today's crammed world. Scheduling an active outing each week for the whole family is what you can try to do. A mountain biking trip, a game of baseball in the park, a hike, or a long walk with the dogs on the beach are the things you can try to do.

To raise healthy children, exercise isn't enough so you need to keep an eye on their nutrition as well. A habit best developed from a young age is eating healthy. You are responsible for your children's health. Set a good example by eating healthy and exercising yourself, instil good habits in your kids early on, and encourage them to participate in sport. This is something you owe your children.
